It is white crystal substance in the form of long needle-like crystals with silky gloss. It is obtained after a vapour-phase oxidation of ortho-xylene with the air on Divanadium-5-oxide catalyst. It is used as a raw material in the production of alkyd resins, polyester resins, plasticizers, for synthetic antraquinone and its derivatives, in the production of Rodamine Phthalocyanic colarants, for insecticide preparation, in the pharmaceutical industry.

Maleic anhydride is obtained as a by-product from the production of Phthalic anhydride. It's primarily used for production of polyester resins, alkyd resins, lubricating oil additives, water treatment chemicals, detergents, pharmaceuticals and copolymers, chemical preparation for the agriculture, for obtaining of fumaric acid.
